130 Recall Notice

I have a friend who has a brother who once was a pastor, but is now an atheist. I do not pretend to know the whole story, but I have worked as a church minister for a season and imagine a scenario that I have observed first hand. The church, the body, the bride of Christ is susceptible to wrong doing or misdirection. This is unarguable, but God is ready and willing to guide us if we eagerly listen for His correction.

This is where I pause and think of a notice I got in the mail for my pickup. It's a beaten up high mileage farm pickup, but still runs well. The notice was a safety recall for my airbags. Apparently they may fail to deploy if I ever crash. At this notice, I have a choice. I can go through the hassle of calling some dealership, making an appointment, arranging a ride for myself, be without transportation, arrange another ride and then rest assure that now if I crash my airbag will explode correctly. I have another option though. I can simply ignore the notice. I might read the notice and simply say eh, that's too much hassle. Absurdity may even rear its ugly head and I might reject this notice. Maybe the thought that there is something wrong with my beloved pickup is just too much. Maybe as a result I deny the existence of the auto manufacturer that sent me this notice.

God, in His kindness, and desire for relationship, sends us notices. He doesn't leave us to wallow in our ineffectiveness. If He is our God then we are His children, then He disciplines those He loves. I hope I don't ever get so comfortable in my broken down car that I reject the knowledge of how to fix it or get offended at the mechanic that God sends across my path.
