Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.

How often have we found ourselves in a pickle. One where we are desperate. We've used up every resource, every idea, and have only made it worse by our efforts. This can vary situation by situation, but I'm talking about the worst. We've hit rock bottom. A string of bad luck and trouble has us in sight of despair. Along comes a timely savior to bail us out, give us a hand up, rescue us or simply pursue us. That person might sacrifice a good bit of themselves to get us back on track and when we really think about how close we came to the edge of the cliff, we are thankful. We know where we were and know what our friend did for us. We might feel like we owe them a debt we can't repay. After all, we had gotten ourselves into the pickle and this new friend didn't have to do what He did. Now we're out and on track, prospects are looking good and we can't help but remember what was done for us. In fact every new paycheck, every new blessing, every good turn seems to be to their credit. They are successful themselves and don't need repayment, but you almost constantly think of a way to return the favor in a way that would be meaningful. As I imagine this scenario I wonder what it would look like if we as believers (especially the pretty good ones) understood the gravity of our sins. What would it look like if we knew how close to eternal damnation we were and lived with an absolute awareness of the seriousness of the sins we have committed. Yes, the servant who was forgiven much debt was more thankful, but the servant who was forgiven little was just as close to rock bottom as anyone else. The fruit we should produce as believers should be in keeping with eternal death we came so close to.
