Not often would a successful, wise, wealthy, and powerful king offer an honest account to his exploration in life. King Solomon sought satisfaction. He had no one's word to take, so he tested the limits of human indulgence, looking to see what would fill this empty void within. Nothing did. We today have the gift of his learning but also easy access to observe the lives of other people who tried everything under the sun to satisfy, to no avail. Why then do we continually repeat the same errors made? Why do we not take the word of the wisest or the obvious experience of those we observe? What is it about understanding that cannot seem to come without our own mistakes?
